The last time we got together (in-person) my dear friend and Supermom, Suhaifa, brought a set of snap cards along so our girls could have something to do while we catch up. A few weeks later we designed a set of Snap cards for a client and got a blank set as a sample from our printers. I thought this would make a really cool craft for the children, and ended up ordering customisable playing cards for the LegoMom shop.
Since we’re big fans of Moriah Elizabeth in our home, we know about painting markers, and I went on a quest to find the best local painting markers for our project. (These are now also available in our shop in Pastel or Metallic). These are not cheap, but they are non-toxic, waterproof, and can paint on almost any surface.
The playing cards come in a set of 52 that can be split into 4 sets of 13 (similar to normal playing cards), or any combination that you want. The options are endless: you can make up your own set with logic and designs that work for you and your children. It’s the perfect craft to do with your children, incorporating the things that they are interested in.
Here’s how we designed ours:
Start off by sketching out the design with a pencil. Once you are happy, start colouring (one colour at a time). If you’re using paint or paint markers, wait for every coat to dry before using the next colour.
Add accents with permanent markers, or the white paint marker, and wait for everything to dry completely. We highly recommend coating with an acrylic gloss glaze to protect the paint layer.
