I was one of those first-time Moms who made the baby’s first solid food myself, for almost a year (all organic and sugar free, of course)… Fast forward to five years later and on some days I congratulate myself if the children had one thing that wasn’t from a store-bought packet… Life gets busy, and it gets more challenging to get them to eat healthy, nutritious snacks. Here are a few gadgets and snack ideas that’s worked for us to get the children to (at least) eat a bigger variety of foods every day.
Funky cutlery, plates and accessories
I’ve been following @kids.eat.in.color for a while and was super inspired by the lunchboxes she suggested. She uses silicone cupcake cases to add colour, and put different foods inside those in lunchboxes or on plates. Besides the colourful containers, she also uses the cutest mini forks to add more excitement to the food. I’ve found similar ones at rubixboxsa. Our children also enjoy having lunch served on cute plates with colourful cutlery.
Food cut into special shapes
Apparently food cut into special shapes tastes a lot better than serving it as is…
We are unashamedly huge @yuppiechef fans, and these Birkmann cookie cutters are the best.
They come in so many shapes and sizes, from any animal you can think of to unicorns, fairies, cars, rockets and shooting stars.
Lots of foods can be cut into shapes (without wasting anything) – a star-shaped piece of cucumber is just as cool as a slice of cucumber with the star cut out of the middle 😉
Homemade treats
Nothing beats the taste (and smell) of homemade popcorn.
These gorgeous microwave popcorn poppers will be available in our shop soon and are reusable, collapsible, and made from food grade silicone.
Best of all it can be stored flat, and the popcorn is so much healthier than the store-bought varieties, and is much less hassle than making it on the stovetop.
